Culture Collection of Dairy Microorganisms (CCDM) Lactoflora® is a unique collection of genetic resources of microorganisms that are key for dairy and food applications. Founded in Prague in 1956, it is now based at the Dairy Research Institute in Tábor and is part of the National Program for the Conservation of Genetic Resources.
The collection includes more than 980 strains, mainly lactic acid bacteria (e.g., Lactobacillus, Bifidobacterium, Lactococcus), noble molds (Penicillium camemberti, P. roqueforti), and yeasts (Saccharomyces, Kluyveromyces). In 2019, it was expanded to include the Culture Collection of Dairy and Bakery Contaminants (CCDBC).
The core activities are the preservation of the gene pool, the identification of microorganisms (including DNA sequencing), and the regular renewal of collection strains. We offer a wide range of services:
- Provision of collection strains (for teaching and research free of charge).
- Secure private storage of cultures.
- Isolation and identification of microorganisms from food.
- Custom lyophilization and preparation of culture media.
- Consultation and advice.
